CONFIRMED: Monday 29th April is NOT a Public Holiday in Sierra Leone

Claim: Monday 29th April is not a public holiday in the Republic of Sierra Leone.

Verdict: TRUE

Context: There has been widespread debate regarding whether Monday 29th April would be declared a public holiday following the celebration of Sierra Leone's 63rd Independence Anniversary on Saturday 27th April. Various individuals have expressed differing opinions on the matter.

Evidence: The government of Sierra Leone has issued a public notice addressing this issue, stating:

"The General Public is hereby informed that as the 63rd Independence Anniversary of Sierra Leone will be observed on SATURDAY 27TH APRIL 2024, MONDAY, 29TH APRIL will NOT be a Public Holiday."

This announcement clarifies that Monday 29th April is indeed not designated as a public holiday.

The government's authority to make such decisions is derived from Chapter 58 (2) of the Public Holiday Ordinance. This ordinance specifies that certain days listed in the schedule shall be observed as public holidays, and if any of these days fall on a Sunday, the following day, which is not itself a public holiday, shall be observed as a public holiday in lieu thereof.

Conclusion: Based on the confirmation from the Government of Sierra Leone and the provisions outlined in the Public Holiday Ordinance, it is verified that Monday 29th April is NOT a public holiday in Sierra Leone.
