ALERT: Beware of Fake Calls

We want to alert the public about a recent scam involving fraudulent calls.

Incident Details: Date: Wednesday, 10th July, Time: Early hours

What Happened: I received a call from an individual introducing himself as Barrister Emmanuel. He claimed that the WhatsApp group created by the Public Affairs Department of the United States Embassy in Freetown would hold an online meeting at 8 PM today.

Verification: Suspicious of the call, the Sierra Check team immediately contacted the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy.

They confirmed:

• There is no staff member named Barrister Emmanuel.

• No such online meeting is scheduled.
